The unthinkable has happened! Kim Kardashian has been lusting after a spot on the cover of Vogue for a while now, but she got much more than that. Kardashian has officially been named editor-in-chief of every fashion lover’s bible. The news has taken many by surprise and the consensus among readers is confusion. The question on everyone’s mind is, “What about Anna Wintour?”
According to an inside source, this change has been covertly in the works for some time. Conde Nast attempted to create rumors that someone more suitable for the position such as Sarah Jessica Parker would be filling Wintour’s Manolo Blahnik’s, but those have been proven wrong. We have also been informed that Kanye West played a big part in this whole process. West has been a close friend and influencer of Wintour for years. Kardashian, on the other hand, has not always been welcomed with open arms. At the 2013 Met Gala, the very pregnant Kardashian wore the infamous Riccardo Tisci floral gown and, naturally, was pictured with baby daddy West. The thing that caught many a fan’s attention is when the photo resurfaced on the Best Dressed list, but Kardashian was cut out of it. It was said that this was purely Wintour’s doing. Her distaste for Kardashian has been quite apparent … until now.
As many have learned from the classic novel “The Devil Wears Prada,” there is always someone new to take the place of an older editor once her time is up. With some coercion from West, Wintour has been assured that Kardashian is the best candidate for the job, mostly because she can very easily be swayed by West’s opinion. Wintour is rumored to be stepping down without a fight and she will be observing and commenting from afar, focusing all of her efforts on her role as artistic director of Conde Nast.
The major concern here is what is to come of Vogue. Will each Kardashian family member take turns gracing the cover each month? It will be interesting to see if Bruce Jenner will make the cut! Are all of Kendall and Kylie’s designs from their collaboration with PacSun going to be featured? How about the Kardashian line for Sears and their new children’s line, Kardashian Kids? Vogue may actually be turning into Kogue, since the Kardashians now have the authority to change every first letter into a “K.”
Some people are expressing their concerns about the young mother taking on such a demanding job. In actuality, Wintour’s own daughter, Bee Shaffer, was about the same age that North West is now when Wintour took the position in 1988. This bodes well for Kardashian, who is set to assume Vogue’s throne in June, with her wedding date set for May. This means that the September 2014 issue will be the last September issue under Wintour’s rule. It has yet to be confirmed, but rumor has it that Kardashian will be on the cover of the issue.
